CM- Congenital Myotonia
CM has been in the Nigerian Dwarf breed since before its foundation at ADGA. CM is the gene that causes a "fainting goat" to "faint". In October 2025, ADGA made the AFFECTED fainter and undesirable trait. (NOT a disqualifying trait) This is how our herd has chosen to respond and adapt.
Education First
1. A goat that inherits two copies of this gene, one from each parent, becomes affected (CM/CM). These goats may show symptoms ranging from slight stiffening to falling over. This has been deemed "undesirable".
2. A goat that inherits only one copy of the gene becomes a carrier (N/CM). These goats are healthy and unaffected and will have no symptoms. These goats have a 50/50 chance of passing a single copy of the fainting gene to their offspring.
3. The final scenario is a goat that inherited zero copies of the CM gene; therefore, it is clear (N/N). These goats cannot pass the gene to their offspring.
What does Curly Goose Cottage do with this information?
In December 2025, we began testing our herd for their personal CM status. All of our testing results are listed on our website in each animal's individual section. We will not knowingly breed two carriers together. We will offer 100% of the purchase price as a credit toward a replacement kid of your choice for any CM/CM (affected) kid upon surrender of the registration, no questions asked!
1. The kid must be tested or exhibit apparent fainting symptoms with a video provided.
2. You have the right to request and pay for testing of any kid prior to pick up. Gen -sol currently has results available within 1 week. We will work with you in any reasonable capacity. We will not hold kids for extended periods of time for optional testing.
3. You may choose to cancel your reservation and have your deposit refunded if you decide to test your kid before delivery, and it is a carrier. If you choose to waive testing, we will not issue a refund or credit for a carrier status goat. Please test if this is an issue for you.

CH- Carpal Hyperextension
We have never had a single case of CH on our farm to date. However, it does seem to be an issue within the Nigerian Dwarf breed, and as of this date, the exact cause of CH appears to come from multiple sources. These could include, but are not limited to, genetic, mineral, stress-induced, or herd management issues. We aren't sure exactly how to approach this topic as we have never dealt with it; however, this is how we would like to be treated, if this happened to us, so this is how we will approach it for now.
We will issue a credit toward another goat of the same gender, in the amount of your purchase price should your goat develop CH before the age of 2 years old, no questions asked.
1. Photos and videos must be provided, and CH must be evident and agreed upon.
2. Registration papers must be surrendered.
